Senior citizen suffers burns as fire guts wooden house

TANJUNG MANIS: A senior citizen suffered burns on the back of her head and hands in a house fire at Kampung Paloh Lot here yesterday.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said it was alerted to the incident at 6.55am via a call from the Daro district officer.

“The fire involved a singlestorey wooden house, located about two hours by boat from Tanjung Manis.

The Kampung Paloh community volunteer firefighters were the first to arrive at the scene at 5.20am and brought the situation under control at 6.40am with help from 20 villagers,” it said.

Bomba said personnel from the Tanjung Manis fire station reached the scene at 9.59am, at which time the fire had been fully extinguished by the volunteer firefighters.

“The house was completely razed,” it said, adding the house was occupied by six persons, including two children.
