KAPIT: The objective of a Neighbourhood Commi ee is to promote a harmonious society and not for any individual to pursue personal interests.

In stating this, National Unity and Integration Department Kapit officer Jendri Mangku said commi ee members ought to focus on organising activities that involve the participation of the local communities in promoting unity and national integration.

“There shouldn’t be any issues involving politics, race or religion in the commi ee. Neighbourhood Commi ees are for everyone regardless of social background, where the people come together to foster friendship and trust to build a united, harmonious society,” she said.

Jendri was speaking at a pre-Christmas gathering organised by the Jalan Airport Neighbourhood Commi ee at SJKC Hock Lam, here on Sunday evening.

She also called on the various commi ees to be active by holding activities throughout the year – preferably once a month – and to invite local clubs or associations to take part.

At the gathering, Jendri also presented a Neighbourhood Commi ee guidebook to Jalan Airport Neighbourhood Commi ee chairperson Ma Bee Kuan.

Also present were Cr Jenny Yu, Tai San Ten Association chairman Jason Yeo, and South Neighbourhood Commi ee chairman Ma Tian Ho.
