Hope Place comes to aid of couple with three grandkids to care for

KUCHING: Hope Place has recently come to the aid of a lowincome couple who have been le to care for their three young grandchildren.

Nila Kalaoh and her husband Martin are currently taking care of their grandchildren aged between 8 and 13, with very li le to go around.

Martin, 55, is a daily-paid construction worker and the family’s sole breadwinner. He also struggles with high blood pressure and diabetes.

Nila, who used to be a cleaner when she was younger, has a limited amount from her Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

“With the price increase of basic necessities and having so many mouths to feed, I am doing my best to survive,” she said.

The family lives in Stapok and plants some paddy on an empty piece of land in Samarahan for their consumption.

Hope Place Kuching is helping the family with basic food aid and will be providing the three children with school supplies next year.
