AEON Consortium appoints Raja Teh Maimunah as digital bank CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: AEON Consortium appointed Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz as its Chief executive officer.

Prior to joining the consortium, Raja Teh Maimunah was the managing director of wholesale banking at AmBank Group. The seasoned banker had held various positions in the past, including chief executive officer and managing director of Hong Leong Islamic Bank, chief operations officer of Digital Innovation and Transaction Banking, Hong Leong Group. She also served in Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Bhd (Malaysia’s national asset management and debt recovery agency) during the Asian Financial crisis in 1998.

“I am pleased to welcome Raja Teh as the chief executive officer of our digital bank. We are confident that her leadership skills, coupled with extensive banking experience especially in Islamic Finance and her passion for digital banking, she together with the team will be able to build the next Malaysia’s digital banking landscape,” said AEON Credit Service (Malaysia) Bhd Daisuke Maeda, in a press statement.

AEON Credit Service and AEON Co (M) Bhd both under the AEON Group Malaysia have been a household brandname, providing consumers with daily financial and retail access throughout Malaysia for over three decades.

AEON Consortium was one of the five consortiums to have been awarded a digital bank licence by Ministry of Finance and Bank Negara Malaysia in 2021. The digital bank is expected to launch by end of next year.

Additionally, Raja Teh is a chartered banker and a chartered professional in Islamic Finance (CPIF). She also sits on Board of Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) (KWAP) and its Board Risk and Integrity Committees as well as the Board of Trustees of Amanah Warisan Negara (AWAN).
