Man who fell into Sebiew River found drowned

BINTULU: A man who was feared to have fallen into the Sebiew River was found 100 metres from the jetty yesterday afternoon.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Bintulu Zone 5 chief Wan Kamarudin Wan Ahmad said the body of the victim, who was identified as 20-year-old Billy Mathew, was found floating on the river bed by a search and rescue team.

“His body was taken to the Bomba Control Post before being handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

Wan Kamarudin said that at 2pm on Saturday, the victim was said to have left the house to go to work but did not return home after that.

Worried that something bad might have befallen him, Billy’s family members made a police report before calling Bomba to help search for the victim.
