SIBU: A grocery shop at Sungai Asap bazaar, Bela ga was destroyed in a fire Saturday night.

No injuries were reported in the incident which happened around 10pm, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said in a statement yesterday.

“Personnel from the Belaga fire station were alerted to the incident by the Uma Daro Volunteer Fire Brigade (PBS) which had deployed 20 of its personnel to the scene.

“The local villagers also assisted in putting out the fire,” said Bomba.

It said the occupants of the building where the grocery store was located were able to evacuate at the start of the fire.

The firefighting operation ended at 1.25am. Total loss has yet to be ascertained and the cause of the fire is being investigated by Bomba.
