Siblings Zun Jet, Sze Hui book slots to SEA Games aquathlon

KUALA LUMPUR: Two national aquathlon athletes Teo Zun Jet and his sister Teo Sze Hui booked their slots to the Cambodia SEA Games in May, after producing excellent performances in their respective categories at the NeptuneX113 (NX113) 2023 Aquathlon Putrajaya championships held from Feb 2 to 4.

In the swim-run championship that took place at the Putrajaya Lake, Zun Jet, 17, won the men’s elite (Super Sprint) category in style after completing the 500 metre open swimming routine and 2.5-km run with a time of 16 minutes 12 seconds to beat nearest challenger Isaac Tan (16.26s).

Lee Wen Jun (16.33s) and Brendon Wong Kai (16.43s) had to settle for third and fourth spots respectively in the event.

In the women’s elite competition, Siobhan Doyle (18.30s) and Sze Hui (19.16s) successfully grabbed two SEA Games tickets after finishing second and fourth respectively.

The event was topped by Indonesian Renata Berliana with a record time of 18.09s while Ng Wen May completed the podium position with a third spot finish on 18.52s.

Wen May was not considered in the selection for the (aquathlon) sport because she was listed by the Malaysian Triathlon Association (MTA) to the SEA Games for the triathlon event.

Aquathlon, which involves running and swimming disciplines will be contested for the first time at the biennial games. The three categories that will be contested are Standard (swim 1.5km/run 10km), Sprint (swim 750m/run 5km) and Super Sprint (swim 500m/run 2.5km.
