Floodwaters recede at Sg Ngemah, but road to Rantau Lugai still inaccessible

The floodwaters at Sungai Ngemah have receded but the road to Rumah Salang Manggau at Rantau Lugai area is still inaccessible due to soil erosion at Sungai Sarik bridge.

Rumah Salang, which has 15 doors, is located further within Ulu Sungai Ngemah area.

According to Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana, he was informed by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) on Saturday that the road to Rantau Lugai was rendered inaccessible after Sungai Ngemah burst its banks following heavy and continuous downpour last Friday night.

“I hope the authorities will find ways to deliver assistance to the longhouse,” he said when contacted, adding he has not been informed of assistance being delivered to the longhouse.

Three other longhouses at Sungai Ngemah – Rumah Nyalong Indet and Rumah Suzusie Lily at Nanga Baloh, and Rumah Langgong at Nanga Bitan – were also flooded.

Residents of the three longhouses were evacuated to the temporary evacuation centre at the Nanga Ngungun multipurpose hall.

The number of evacuees dropped to 75 from 91 as of 7.40am yesterday, said Kanowit Bomba chief Arrahman Chik.

“There are currently 42 adults, 26 children including three infants, six senior citizens and a disabled person at the hall,” he said when contacted.
