UCSI and Kuching Food Aid reach out to lower-income group in collaborative effort
UCSI Sarawak Campus distributed food aid to the lower-income group yesterday in a collaborative effort with Kuching Food Aid.
UCSI Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management head of department Ting Hui Bun said it was the first of such community project to take place; involving final-year students with the aim of supporting the less fortunate.
“The food programme is actually an assignment tasked to our final-year students and we hope it will become an annual activity,” he said during the handover ceremony at Kuching Community Social Support Centre at Jalan Abell here.
Ting said the food aid was distributed to 64 households from Kampung Semerah Padi at Petra Jaya, with a total of 21 students from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management taking part.
He added it took around a month for the students to raise RM2,840 for the project.
It is hoped that the food aid will help families overcome the issue of food security, particularly after the recent flash flood that greatly affected certain areas in Kuching, he said.
