Sibu Ramadan bazaar stall operators issued notices for breaching food safety regulations

Sibu Divisional Health Office has issued 10 notices under Section 32B of the Food Act 1983 to stall operators at Ramadan bazaars here for breaching the Food Regulations 2009.

The office in a statement yesterday said although Ramadan bazaar stalls are temporary, public health needs to be prioritised.

“We advise all stall operators to follow the rules for food safety and not only consider profits.

“The enforcement team will continue its inspections at Ramadan bazaar locations to ensure the practise of good hygiene and cleanliness in food handling,” it said.

Meanwhile, Sibu Municipal Council Social and Community Development Standing Committee chairperson Cr Zaiton Abdul Kader said she was made to understand that some of the stall operators were unsuitably dressed to handle food.

“So far, I am satisfied with the majority of the stall operators who comply with the cleanliness standard required,” she added.
