Be proactive in driving local economic activities, SIDS Kemena members told

BINTULU: Members of Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Kemena branch must be committed and proactive in driving local economic activities, said its chairperson Jenny Bangga.

This, she pointed out, is to increase women’s income especially in Kemena and Sebauh areas.

“For example, the woven cloth, pua kumbu and handicrafts produced by women should be highlighted to ensure the artistic process involved could be further commercialised in the future,” she said at the association’s second Annual General Meeting (AGM) here on Sunday.

“I hope the elected committee members for the term 2023/2025 would be able to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to them. It is crucial for us to perform well so SIDS will be able to provide benefits for its members and women in the Kemena area,” she added.

Meanwhile, the AGM saw Jenny re-elected as chairperson, with Laura Lande Engelberth Kubang as deputy chairperson.

Jerida Andin was elected secretary, Fressicia Syiren Empaling (deputy secretary), Manyie Thomas (treasurer), and Lemba Tedong (deputy treasurer). Elected committee members are Katheleen Sapit, Elizebeth Nail, Winnie Henry Amba, Acha Jale and Helen Bangga.

Also taking place was a talk and sharing session by guest speakers including Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Kemena secretary Cenilla Anthony, who touched on the constitution of an association and its benefits.

The other topics included pineapple farming by entrepreneur Caroline Ijon; career in education by teacher Amanda Laus Justine Agas; and the beauty industry by Cecelia Lagak. The event concluded with a lucky draw session.
