Drug abuse: Man fined RM2,500, placed under police supervision

MIRI: The Magistrates’ Court here yesterday fined a man RM2,500 in default one month in jail after he pleaded guilty to abusing drugs.

Senior Assistant Registrar Randu Rangen meted out the sentence on Mohd Azrine Azlan, 26, from Kampung Bakam, and also ordered for him to be placed under police supervision for two years.

Mohd Azrine was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.

The Section provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both, upon conviction.

Based on the facts of the case, Mohd Azrine tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Miri Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office at 4pm, on March 29, 2021.

Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman prosecuted, while Mohd Azrine was unrepresented by any legal counsel.
