Johor lauds opening of planned industry areas to boost investments

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Johor government encourages the opening of planned industrial areas which are equipped with utilities and basic infrastructure for investors, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Menteri Besar said the state aims to attract more investments and create job opportunities for Johoreans, in line with the aspirations of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Miti).

To achieve this aspiration, the ministry has established a special unit called the Industrial Estate Unit, through the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), to monitor and develop industrial parks to attract quality investments in the country, he added.

“Johor received total investments of RM70.6 billion last year with 570 projects approved. These projects are expected to generate more than 16,000 job opportunities as well as an abundance of business opportunities for the people of Johor and Malaysia.

“I uphold the order of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar to ensure that these investments can be realised as soon as possible,” he said in his windingup speech at the Johor State

Legislative Assembly sitting here yesterday.

Onn Hafiz, who is Machap assemblyman, said he would continue to chair the Johor Investment Committee (JIC) periodically to ensure that everything approved can be implemented, besides continuing to monitor and facilitate all investment matters in the state.

On March 21, state Investment, Trade, and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Lee Ting Han reportedly said that the total investments received by Johor in 2022 stood at RM70.6 billion.

Of the total amount, RM58.8 billion ,or 83.26 per cent was foreign investments, while RM11.81 billion or 16.74 per cent was domestic investments.

Regarding a special financial zone in Iskandar Malaysia announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently, Onn Hafiz said the state government welcomes the proposal and hopes that the matter can be discussed with the Ministry of Finance as soon as possible.

“I am confident that it can be a catalyst to boost economic development in the Iskandar Malaysia area,” he said.
