KCCC brings out various issues afflicting Kapit folk

Kapit Chinese Chamber of Commerce (KCCC) calls on service providers to address the various issues affecting users in Kapit.

Chairman Ling Hang Pin listed frequent interruption of internet services, water and electricity supply and traffic congestion as the main issue.

“According to feedback from members of the chamber, frequent interruption of internet services is a nuisance to users. From Dec 2022 to March 2023, internet breakdown occurred not less than 13 times.

“The recent one was in midMarch from morning till evening. This is ridiculous as it occurs at an average of four times a month. Unifi fibre optic internet is supposed to improve the connectivity but unfortunately from time to time it is off-line causing great inconvenience to the users, especially the business community and government departments,” said Ling.

He lamented that while the country was all out to promote Information and Communication Technology, the service providers were not doing a good job in providing reliable internet to the users. He said businesses depend on internet services and when it breaks down, they suffer while waiting for re-connection.

He thus called on the federal Ministry of Communication and Digital and state Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications to address the issue.

He also pointed to the numerous complaints among members on the short notice on piped water supply interruption and application for electricity meter installation.

In this regard, Ling also appealed to the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to issue the notice of water supply interruption earlier, at least three days ahead, to give consumers sufficient time to prepare and store up water during the period.

He said it is a lengthy wait when applying for installation of electricity meter, and appealed to Sarawak Electricity Berhad to speed up the process of approval and installation.

Ling also pointed to the congestion at Sungai Kapit traffic light junction, saying the situation worsened as days passed. He hoped the authority concerned would look into the matter and how to improve the traffic flow. He said the worst congestion was from SK Kapit, Bletih to the traffic light, Sungai Kapit to Jalan Airport and Kapit New Bazaar.
