Man jailed 10 months for assaulting another

KUCHING: A man, 33, was sentenced to 10 months in jail by a magistrates' court here yesterday after he pleaded guilty to cutting another man with a flick knife.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali imposed the sentence against Chin Jin Yih for a charge framed under Section 324 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

The Section carries a jail term which may extend to 10 years, or with fine, or with whipping, or with any of such punishment, upon conviction.

Chin committed the offence at a house in Jalan Liu Shan Bang, Mile 7, Kota Sentosa here around 8.30pm on July 21, 2022.

Based on the facts of the case, the victim, 26, was visited by Chin at his house. Chin had assaulted him with a sharp object, which caused a cut on his ankle and pinkie finger.

The victim was then brought to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment and a police report was duly lodged which led to Chin's arrest the next day (July 22).

Investigation revealed that Chin assaulted the victim to collect debt from the latter.

Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad prosecuted while Chin was unrepresented by a counsel.
