Hope Place seeks support for desperate family of eight

Hope Place is seeking the public’s continuous support to help ease the burden and poverty experienced by a family of eight here.

Just days into the month of Ramadan, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) said it received an urgent call from one desperate mother asking for milk powder for her oneyear-old child.

The 26-year-old mother of six children aged between one and 10 years, turned to Hope Place as her last resort as the family had barely enough to eat.

According to the mother, who only wished to be known as Norhaliza, the increasing price of goods plus her husband’s meagre salary as a construction site labourer made it difficult for the family to make ends meet.

“The family of eight rents a tiny room in Sungai Apong, with the three older children attending school. Hope Place is currently supplying the family with basic food aid and milk powder.

“We would like to thank all contributors for their generous support towards our charity work,” said Hope Place in a statement.

Those wanting to help this underprivileged family can contact Hope Place, or Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK), on 082-505987. Opening hours are from 8am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and 8am to noon on Saturdays.

All donations are welcome and receipts will be given upon request.
