Teen who smashed house door, car windscreen sent to reform school
KUCHING: A 15-year-old boy was ordered to be sent to the Henry Gurney School in Puncak Borneo for three years after he pleaded guilty to breaking the glass of a door and the rear windscreen of his father’s car.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan imposed the sentence after reviewing the teenager’s probation report submitted by the Welfare Department.
The teen was charged under Section 426 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term for up to five years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
He committed the offence at his family’s house in Lower Sungai Maong here at around 10.30pm on Oct 25, 2023.
Based on the facts of the case, the boy in a fit of rage broke the glass of the main door of the house using an iron rod, before breaking the rear windscreen of his father’s car using a butcher knife.
Fearful of his son’s actions, the father lodged a police report which led to the teenager’s arrest two days later.
It was learned that during the investigation, the boy tested positive for drugs.
Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted, while the boy was unrepresented.
