SIDS Sibu branch launches membership drive
SIBU: Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Sibu branch has garnered 29 new memberships through its registration drive held at Rumah Janet Chiya in Assan Nunggang near here recently.
Its chairwoman Angelyn Uchi Maseng said the programme held on Nov 26 aimed to increase membership participation in SIDS and its benefits to Dayak women.
“In this programme, the recruited members are the residents of the longhouse, most of whom are young mothers and these new members will be under the SIDS Naman branch led by Senah Chendang,” said Angelyn.
SIDS, she said, is divided into several sub-committees consisting of health, welfare, social, sports and recreation, development and handicrafts, among others.
“All the sub-committees have their respective roles in empowering Dayak women in the state, to which new members have also been briefed on the benefits of joining SIDS,” she said.
“Many existing members of the older generations are either not active, with some having other commitments or have moved to other places,” she explained on the need for the recruitment drive.
SIDS, she added, acts as a platform to unite and promote growth and development of the Dayak women in Sibu, particularly those in the rural areas.
