Miri Hornbills dominate men’s U20, SMK Merbau clinch girls U17 title
Miri Hornbills made a clean sweep of the Men’s Under-20 trophies at the Miri Division Rugby Association (MDRA) Hornbill Sevens Rugby Tournament at SMK Merbau in Miri last weekend.
Hornbill B overwhelmed Batu Pahat Vocational Oldboys (BPVCOBA) 27-5 in the Cup final and the Plate was won by Miri Hornbill C who beat KV Miri while Miri Hornbill A took the Bowl a er defeating KV Bintulu 12-5.
The Boys Under-17 Cup final was won by Kolej Abdillah who beat SMK Lutong 29-9 and VOKMAT took the Plate a er they beat SMK Lake 29-7.
Whereas SMK Merbau B li ed the Bowl a er they beat SMK Tatau 20-5.
Other winners include SMK Merbau A (Boys Under-15 Cup), Bintulu Under-15 (Boys Under15 Plate), SMK Lutong (Boys U15 Bowl), Samarahan U12 (Boys U12 Open Cup), SK Anchi (Boys U12 Plate) and KRP M&Y (Boys U12
Bowl).
Meanwhile, the Girls U17 Cup was won by SMK Merbau while Kolej Abdillah was second and the Plate and Bowl winners were KV Betong and SMK Pujut respectively.
SMK Lake won the Girls U15 Cup while SMK Pujut and SMK Merbau won the Plate and Bowl respectively.
The tournament was organised by MDRA in collaboration with Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU), National Rugby Development Programme (NRDP), Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS).
