Kuching City Football Club (KCFC) chairman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman has not given up hopes of seeing his team winning the MFL Challenge Cup despite losing 3-0 to PDRM FC in the first leg of the final on Wednesday.
PDRM FC netted thrice in the second half of the match at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ) through Mohamad Nabil Ahmad Lapti (54th minute), Uche Agba (69th) and Amir Saiful Badeli (78th).
The result was a setback in Kuching City’s bid for the title but Fazzrudin is confident they can turn things around in the second leg at Stadium Negeri this Sunday.
“We still have another 90 minutes to play and we should make the most of it,” the Tupong assemblyman told reporters in a press conference for the P194 Petra Jaya Golf Challenge Tournament at KGS yesterday.
“Of course the support from our fans is very crucial and I am hoping that they will turn up in full force on Sunday,” he added.
Fazzrudin, who is also chief political secretary to the Sarawak Premier, believes the players will be determined to deliver an upset this Sunday, stressing that nothing is impossible in football.
“If PDRM can score three goals in 45 minutes, why not KCFC,” he said while urging the players to continue fighting despite the huge deficit.
Meanwhile, Kuching City coach Aidil Sharin Sahak admitted that they are facing an uphill task at the Stadium Negeri.
“We went through a tremendous campaign before reaching the final,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama on Wednesday.
“Though we lost here, we will try to do our best back home on Sunday,” he added.
