SMK St Anthony, SJK Nang Sang emerge champs in wushu tourney

KUCHING: SMK St Anthony of Sarikei and SJK Nang Sang of Sibu were crowned overall champions in the secondary and primary schools sections at the National Invitational Wushu Tournament that ended at Dewan Sentral Sarikei on Sunday.

SMK St Anthony amassed a total of 247 points to finish ahead of SMK Kanowit (209), Wong Nai Siong Secondary School, Sibu (138), SMK St Elizabeth, Sibu (58) and SMK Lanang, Sibu (57).

Seventeen schools from Sarikei, Sibu, Miri and Labuan participated in the secondary school section.

In the primary schools category, SJK Nang Sang collected 127 points to lift the overall champions trophy.

In second to fifth placings were Piasau Chung Hua Club, Miri (117), SJK Su Lai, Sibu (111), SJK Yok Ming, Kanowit (107) and SJK Thian Chin, Sibu (94) respectively.

The best athletes awards went to Amelia Chang Jane Sui of Piasau Zhong Hua Wushu Club and Jess Chiu Ya Wen from SJK Dung Sang, Sibu in the primary school section while the best athletes in the secondary school section were Lim Ming Hao from Piasau Zhong Hua Wushu Club, Young Zi Hui of Wong Nai Siong Secondary School and Chia Yuh Feng of SMK St Elizabeth, Sibu.

The tournament, organised by Kelab Wushu Jelutong Sarikei was supported by the Sarikei Divisional Youth and Sports Office and the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM), and sanctioned by the Sarawak State Wushu Federation and the Malaysian Wushu Federation.

This tournament is one of the build-up programmes in conjunction with the 2023 National Sports Day celebration.

In the sanda (free sparring) competition, Selangor captured three gold and two silver medals to lift the overall champions title.

Perak finished second with three gold medals while Sarawak were third with two gold and a silver medal and Labuan finished fourth with two golds and one silver.
